When you look at these two teams, the Eagles have played the tougher schedule. They played Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers. Those teams ranked first, second, fourth, and tenth in offensive efficiency. The Raiders are only 22nd in offensive efficiency. They're 19th in APA play, 24th in success rate, 24th in early down success rate. They're going to have to deal with the Eagles defense, which is fourth in pass rush win rate. We all know that Derek Carr, he struggles when he sees pressure. His passer rating declines from 108 in a clean pocket to 72.7 under pressure. I think the Eagles are going to be able to generate pressure without blitzing. And that's going to cause problems for this Raiders team. The Raiders are first in explosive pass play rate this year. And I don't see them getting a ton of those explosive pass plays against this Eagles defense. They only allow average depth in target of just 6.6 yards. It's the fifth fewest in the NFL. other side of the ball, Eagles get back Lane Johnson on the offensive line. He's got time to throw. And I think he's going to put the Eagles in a position to possibly win this game outright. So plus three, I think there's some value. Yeah, this game is probably my toughest read of the week. And my picks column that comes out on Wednesdays. This is the one game as I was looking at all the lines, I was just like, I just don't know. I don't know what the side is on this one. These teams look extremely even to me on both sides of the ball. and you know like you said it feels kind of like a coin flip game so when it is that close when you really don't know it's usually a good idea to take the points the thing that is giving me some pause is i just don't know how much the metrics actually represent the raiders because two weeks ago you know it's it's the john gruden thing two weeks ago when stuff was still coming out the raiders completely laid an egg in a game that i thought they're going to win big on and so that really messed up their numbers then last week post gruden and post moving on from that mess they had a huge game and you know they had their best offensive dvoa game of the season by far you mentioned their big plays they had seven plays of 25 or more yards against Denver who I thought was going to be one of the best defenses of the season got lit up by the Raiders And we know John Gruden is an offensive guy, but the Raiders' offense was their best last week without him. And so I'm a little tentative going against the Raiders. Not necessarily that I'm for the Raiders. This just feels like a team. It feels more like it's week two of the Raiders' season, and I don't really know what I'm getting from this team yet. So am I right to be worried at all about that, or do you think this team is what it looks like? I think it is what it looks like, and I think them dominating the Broncos, it doesn't say a lot to me about this team, and I think we've got to remember it's a week-to-week league. There's a reason this line was 3.5, and it's got bet down to 3. So I love the Eagles here. I think this is the perfect spot. I think the Eagles go out there, and they probably win this game outright. Yeah. Would you play the money line here or where would you stop on the spread? Would you play it below three? I would definitely play the money line. Like if it drops below three, I think you got to play the money line. But I would play the money line now, but I just would, I would sprinkle someone on the money line while taking the three. Yeah, I think both of us do that. So if you are playing one of these underdogs and you think that they can win,”

To me, the Raiders really haven't been tested yet. We saw them go up against Miami, and Jacoby Brissett was able to lead this team on a comeback to push this game into overtime. Lamar Jackson, without many receiving threats, was able to just drive up and down the field at will. So I'm expecting the Chargers to be able to go out there and score. And then obviously the Raiders, Derek Carr is having an MVP-like season. And this Raiders offense has been able to score. And obviously, I think this Chargers pass rush will probably be one of the best pass rushes that they've faced thus far. But I still think you're looking at a high-scoring game. So the Raiders are 7-1 over the last eight games. I'm going to ride with it.”

I'm not really that high on the Cowboys, but the thing with Dak is that he's going to be solely responsible for their success. So he has a bevy of weapons at his disposal. I mean, you look at C.D. Lamb, you look at Ezekiel Elliott, you look at Amari Cooper, and then now the offensive line is going to be healthy, which they weren't last year. They're going to welcome the return of Tyron Smith, Laleel Collins, Zach Martin. This guy was on pace to throw for 6,760 yards last season. We know the defense isn't that good. The NFC East really isn't good. I mean, I'm pretty high on the Washington football team, but I mean, we're not expecting much from the Eagles. We're not expecting anything from the Giants. So, you know, when I speak from that perspective in the same way that I thought about Rodgers last year beating up on the NFC North, I think this is a division that the Cowboys can beat up one. And then, you know, so one of the things I like to do before every season, and I'm going to write an article about this is that I like to look at season win totals compare each team and who they play The Cowboys have the eighth easiest schedule according to Vegas win totals The Cowboys, if Dak can put up the season that he had last year and they could actually win some games, I think he's live at plus 1600. So that's a shot that I want to take. So that one's interesting to me.”

So I think Javante Williams can have a big year. So, I mean, for me, obviously, the quarterbacks are the guys that you want to look at. But if you want to take a flyer on somebody, I think Javante Williams is a guy you want to take a flyer on.”

Ja'Marr Chase, not Javonte Williams, won 2021 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year (NFL).

“the year right now I mean I think one of the things that you have to specify I have to really specify is that edge rushers truly have the edge here you know they're the guys getting the sacks there's some pretty good quarterbacks in this field but you know since 95 they've only won 12 percent of the awards because they have to get the interception it doesn't matter how good you're locking down somebody they want to know if you if the voters need to see interceptions so i'm gonna go with two edge rushers here i'm gonna go with jellion phillips out of miami he's with the miami dolphins first round pick he played in university of miami you know he slipped down because he had some injuries that's the first edge rusher drafted in the draft so i think you kind of got got to go with him at plus 900. He's playing in Brian Flores' defense, you know, which is, you know, they forced the most turnovers last year. I think they're going to take a step back this year, but I think he can really do some damage in that defense. So I'm going to go with him and then I'm going to go with, I hope I'm pronouncing his name correctly. It's Kawiti Pei out of Indianapolis.”

“Who stands out from some of those names? I'm going with Dalvin Cook. When you're playing in a Mike Zimmer offense, you know that he's going to run the ball. And not only can Dalvin Cook run the ball, he can catch passes out of the backfield. I mean, he really has no competition as far as carries over there. I mean, I know, you know, Justin Jefferson has been great. Adam Thielen has been great as far as, you know, being wide receivers who can stretch the field, But he's going to get the majority of the touches. And, you know, he's going to be he's he's going to get the goal line carries. He's the guy over there. To me, I think he's probably the number one back in fantasy this year because I think, you know, Derek Henry is obviously going to take a step back. You know, he had 400 touches last year. We can go all into, you know, running backs who get for 400 touches. Yeah. Christian McCaffrey, I love. But I just think Cook is just going to get so many opportunities. So I'm going with him at plus 1800 to win offensive player of the year. Well, that sounds good to this Vikings fan.”

Cooper Kupp, not Dalvin Cook, won the 2021 AP Offensive Player of the Year Award (NFL).

“You know, I'm struggling with it because it's just I don't I don't know how this defense is going to react to the loss of Brandon Staley. I mean, Aaron Donald is still going to be the guy. If I'm going to bet this award, I'm looking for a longer shot than that. I'm going to go with Chase Young. I mean, Chase Young, you know, 44 tackles last year, seven and a half sacks, 12 quarterback hits, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, four passes defended. You know, he's playing, he's going to get to play the Giants this year twice. I mean, the Eagles, I'm not really expecting much from them. Chase Young is on his way to being one of those next guys who can continually win the defensive player of the year. I mean, he's only 22 years old. And it's not only just Chase Young. I mean, you got to deal with Montez Sweat. You got to deal with Allen, Payne, Ioannidis, et cetera. This Washington football team front seven is just stacked and it's just going to make his job easier. So I'm looking at Chase Young on the short list of guys who probably is going to. eventually win a defensive player of the year and maybe multiple.”

“The thing is, I mean, with this, I mean, you mentioned it already. The first year coaches are really big. I mean, the last four winners, you got Stefanski, you had Nagy, you had McVay. But I just don't want to go with the first year coach this year because, I mean, a lot of people are, you know, they're looking at Brandon Stanley. But I just, to me, they lost a lot on defense and I don't necessarily trust them. And I think they're playing in a tough division. They're playing with the Chiefs. I think the Broncos are going to be better this year. So I want to stay away from them. The guy I want to go with is Riverboat Ron Rivera. He's at plus 2000. I mean, I love this Washington football team defense. I've mentioned it before. You know, I mentioned going over on their win total. I think the offense is better. I love the Washington football team this year. So if I love the Washington football team and I think they can improve offensively while still maintaining a top tier defense, I got to go with Riverboat Ron. I like it I think he's won before hasn't he I'm pretty sure he's won before and I think if there's one other guy I would go with I would go with Kyle Shanahan San Francisco they lost so much I mean on both sides of the ball last year um in terms of injuries you know whether they go with Jimmy Garoppolo or they go with Trey Lance they're gonna have good quarterback play I mean they're gonna”

I've never really been a huge fan of Doc Rivers, even though he's improved his Sixers roster. But I think they got rid of their biggest liabilities and Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell, who couldn't defend. And we knew they couldn't defend and we knew that they would get picked on in the playoffs. I wasn't as high on the Clippers last year because of those two guys. And they got rid of them.
